Celebrating
Shakespeare's
Storytelling

Shakespeare's works speak to our moment. When brought to life on stage, they give people the tools to process the complexities of our contemporary moment and imagine better futures.

The Plays

  • Measure for Measure

    September 22, 2026—October 25, 2026

    Opening Night: September 27, 2026

Shakespeare’s rarely produced comedy pits the basest of human desires against the rule of law. Newly enforced laws penalize the everyday citizens of Vienna, but don’t stop the hijinks of a seedy crew of bawdy residents. In this morally lax city, novice nun Isabella faces an impossible decision from a dishonest deputy—maintain her vow of chastity or relent to save her incarcerated brother’s life. Measure for Measure offers considerations into political upheaval and asks whose voices are silenced and whose voices break through.

  • Hamlet

    March 2, 2027—April 4, 2027

    Opening Night: March 14, 2027

To be or not to be? Shakespeare’s most popular play returns to the playwright’s American home. Haunted by the sudden death of his father and feeling alienated in the royal court, Hamlet becomes the ultimate anti-hero, a tortured prince who is by turns cruel and kind. A poet, lover, philosopher, and madman, Hamlet remains a character full of contradiction and meaning for each generation. This great revenge tragedy revolves around the complexities of the human experience and—after 400 years—it remains as urgent, radical, and profound as ever.

  • The Comedy of Errors

    May 18, 2027—June 20, 2027

    Opening Night: May 23, 2027

Folger Theatre welcomes back Fiasco Theater company who combines their joyful, actor-driven approach to Shakespeare with the ingenuity of the Saunders Collective—a family of multi-talented artists. Featuring original music, The Comedy of Errors breathes magical life into the classic madcap farce about two pairs of identical twins—separated at birth—who spend the day travelling through the same city just missing each other. Rife with mistaken identities, cascading misadventures, and gloriously silly comic confusion, this comedy shows how all roads lead to home.
